Indianola Real Estate

Indianola, within the original boundaries of the Port Madison Reservation but no longer reservation land, started in 1916 as a summer/weekend community with the only access via steamboat. This area has transformed into a friendly community with strong artist influences and a great sense of community from its residents. The Indianola Country Store is a local gathering spot serving fresh made soup, sandwiches, cookies, and ice cream cones. They also sell and display some of the local art and products as well. The Indianola dock is an Icon in the community built for the Mosquito Fleet and at 775’ long, and wide enough to drive a car down, it is hard to miss. There is no longer any moorage but many use it to take in the views both at night and during the day. It’s also a great spot to stop if you are on a canoe or kayak to come ashore and head to the Country Store for refreshments.

 

Indianola was a development as a vacation community that began in 1916 by the Indianola Beach Land Company. It began to grow a steady year round group of citizens and had daily passenger boat to Seattle in the 20’s . Eventually a road to Suquamish was built in 1939 and the community was connected to the rest of Kitsap County. The population really boomed during World War II as many families settled in Indianola in support of the local military bases. Ferry Service to Seattle was terminated once the Agate Pass Bridge was built connecting Suquamish to Bainbridge Island and allowing Indianola residents the ability to simply use the larger auto ferry to Seattle.

 

Currently the community is still very rural and is surrounded by large tracts of wooded land but for those looking for a nice quite community where you won’t get lost in the crowd the village has a lot to offer.
